Shenanigans

December 30, 2007

As one of the leaders of the Virtual Artist Alliance, I find myself bogged down with event planning, project management and wiki-editing every time I click the “connect” button for Second Life. If you IM me in-world, chances are pretty high you’ll get a message to the effect of “Can’t talk now, doing VAA stuff”.

But what, exactly, do I end up doing during those times? I offer you this rare, unedited look into my Second Life, to show you just how hard I work when I’m “away” or “busy”.

So, without further adieu, I present to you “Rezago Kokorin, Sunn Thunders and Cyanide Seelowe at a Board Meeting”.

Yeah, that’s it… a Board Meeting…

New VAA Speedbuilding land!

December 29, 2007

In light of the recent closing of the VAA gallery, co-founder Rezago Kokorin was kind enough to buy up a plot of land on which we can host weekly speedbuilding events! Huzzah!

From now on, the weekly speedbuilding contest will be taking place on Thursdays at 6PM SLT at Blekinge Sculpture Park. Each week, we will be utilizing a haiku as the theme of the build (as per our collaboration with the Shin Tao Haiku retreat), so come by to enjoy some awesome poetry and impromptu building!

Updates on the Second Life Art wiki

December 19, 2007

Due to some trademark violations, SLartpedia’s name has been changed to VirtualArtpedia, and the domain has been moved to http://virtualartpedia.wiki-site.com. Please adjust your bookmarks accordingly.

ArtWorld Market, owner of “SLART” magazine, approached me a couple of weeks ago and informed me that the name was infringing upon his trademarks. Sure enough, he owns the trademarkss to SLART, which is fine. As an artist in my First Life and a promoter of the arts in my Second, I fully understand and respect that someone who establishes a trademark on something–whatever it is– needs to protect them tooth and nail.

ArtWorld has stated that he likes where the wiki is going, and has proposed a licensing agreement. Generous as the agreement was, I have decided to decline. It is my opinion that wikis should remain in the public domain, as they would be nothing without the people who are generous enough to contribute.

That said, VirtualArtpedia is open to collaborating with any art group in Second Life in terms of mutual promotion. What would Second Life’s art community be without collaboration amongst peers, after all?

SLartpedia… again.

December 11, 2007

First, I would like to apologize to Rezago Kokorin and Sunn Thunders for not touching our super-secret renovation project for the VAA gallery land since I started SLartpedia… I feel bad for just kind of starting one project and abandoning it for another. Well… the more I think about it, the less it seems like abandoning, since the wiki will play a semi-vital part in that particular project. Nevertheless, I feel like a jerk for secluding myself to a small corner of the interwebs and locking the door behind me. I’ll try and remedy that problem…

Speaking of the wiki, I just spent four hours creating an entry for a past exhibit that was held in the VAA gallery: the Awesome Hat show. Four hours might seem a little much, but when one has to pull out each of the pieces from the show, photograph them and edit the photos so they look nice… that in addition to playing with the code that’s used to write the wiki pages can make four hours fly by pretty quickly. The formatting for the catalog itself is perhaps a bit sloppy… perhaps some kind wiki-stranger will drop by and facilitate my laziness by fixing it. 😀

On the theatrical side of things… the Second Life Ballet’s winter performance, “The Nut” is scheduled to open Sunday, December 16th. It is a slightly abridged version of The Nutcracker and sounds like it’ll be a fun performance to go and see. Normally I’m just the poster girl for the SL Ballet, but this time the director talked me into making a scrim for one of the sets. I am, perhaps, a little frustrated with the director right now, because she volunteered me to critique and add to that particular set without my knowing, and I found out in a fairly inconvenient way. This is fine… just fine. I can’t count how many times I’ve relied on last-minute help to pull things together for various VAA happenings… still, talking with me about it before volunteering me to do it would be nice. </end rant>

I thought this was going to be a brief December? What was I thinking?

What the… I’ve been tagged!

December 10, 2007

My favorite Second Life educator (Sunn Thunders) has bestowed upon me the TAG: a baton of knowledge to pass on to anyone who would read this blog. When you are done reading this, you will know eight random facts about me– I hope you learn something interesting!

1.) I am afraid of moths, but I think they’re beautiful anyway.

2.) I hate the cold, but I LOVE snow.

3.) My favorite animal is the domestic house cat.

4.) Thanks to a rugby-induced concussion in high school, I am color-blind to blue in my right eye.

5.) That same concussion gave me partial heterochromia iridium, as well.

6.) English is my second language.

7.) When I get nervous, I make paper cranes until I am not nervous anymore.

8.) I get cranky when I haven’t listened to music for more than a few hours.

And now… my taggies:

I look forward to reading eight random facts about you all 😀

A Brief December

December 6, 2007

December will be a light month for me in terms of projects, what with the holidays coming about. I hope it’s the same for everyone else– get off the ‘puter and relax with your loved ones this month!

I will, however, take this moment to announce that Rezago Kokorin, Sunn Thunders and myself are working on a currently top-secret project for the VAA gallery land (what is it with me and top-secret stuff? Just living out the dream of being a double agent, I guess…). Unfortunately, the gallery land is currently devoid of any life or activity, which I must apologize for… but I’ll be getting the ball rolling as soon as I think of a graceful way to announce said top-secret project.

In other news…

Rezago Kokorin is hosting the one-year anniversary of Blekinge Sculpture park tonight, featuring the music of cypress Rosewood! A very special event, considering Blekinge Sculpture Park is the birthplace of the Virtual Artist Alliance… it’s amazing how quickly things change in a year’s time! Please do come tonight, if you have a chance– cypress will be playing at 7PM PST, and you’ll be able to see the lovely history of Blekinge in pictoral form!

SLartpedia!

December 2, 2007

God help me, I’ve created a wiki for the Second Life art community to share and expand upon.

So what are you still doing here? Get off your asses and help me make SLartpedia Second Life’s #1 guide to the Second Life art community!

Oh, and thanks for the mention, Morris! 😀
